The speaker Simon Sinek is speaking about - How leaders and companies inspire action through a model he call the Golden Circle.

Basically the Golden Circle is three circles - the outer circle is WHAT, the middle circle is HOW and the inner circle is WHY. A lot of leaders and companies goes from out and in - explaining WHAT they do, HOW they do it and in the end maybe WHY they do it.

Simon’s research shows that truly inspiring leaders and great companies starts with WHY they do what they do, not what product it is you should buy. In the 18 minutes of TED Talk he uses Apple, The Wright brothers and Martin Luther King to demonstrate the example. I can’t help also thinking of a company like Google - the founders mission still holds for Google today - and that’s the WHY - ‘We want to make all information on earth searchable’ - this is not a business model, its not a product - its a big WHY and that’s what we buy into.

Our company - Mindjumpers is part of an entrepreneurial venture called Akasha Venture, the believe of Akasha venture is founded upon Quantum business theory, which (again basically) is about bringing your management and company to an energetic alignment - a state where its not the product - your product is your mission - its your WHY. When you brings your company to a state of energetic alignment people around you will believe in you and your product - not because of what you product or service you sell - but WHY you do it.

Enough talk from me - enjoy Simon’s speech and please leave a comment if this have brought anything to your mind.

We don´t want our interns to be ‘just’ interns, we want them to be a part of the agency while they are there, just like any other employee.

As an intern you don’t have to know exactly where you are going to be in five years, that’s what the internship and the management of the company where you chose to do your internship hopefully will help you get a little closer to.

I find it both fulfilling and giving to work with dedicated young people, I believe helping students with their thesis or having an intern can as a leader provide you with great knowledge and experience.

We just found two interns for the August to December period and I look so much forward to get them on the team. Our last intern, a brilliant young woman - Sara Hansson is ending her 20 weeks in less than 20 days - and she has been of tremendous value to Mindjumpers. I asked Sara to write up her view and advice to students seeking internship - because I think what she has valuable knowledge to share - I am absolutely amazed by her strong points - but be the judge yourself, and if you are on the look out for your internship, I hope you can use some of her tips.

The following have been written by Sara Hansson.

In my opinion, internship would be a part of every education. I’m one of those who believe in “Learning by doing”. You get to work side by side to people who work within the field. Your skills are put on test and you get to push yourself to remember what you’ve learned in the same time as you have to adapt the working methods and the new environment that you’re placed in. It gives you another understanding and a realistic view of what’s actually expected of the role you’re looking for.

I’m studying at a program called Creative Marketing that includes 28 weeks of internship. I did my first 8 weeks at an agency with a focus on event marketing, a place where I drove around in a nice looking business car and got an expensive gift in the end. In the middle of that I did some “safe tasks” and some complete-out-of-my-field-tasks. I guess all experience is good experience in one way or the other, but it didn’t bring me any new knowledge or valuable new skills. When going out on my last 20 weeks I was eager to find a place where I could develop and achieve much more.

I’m now at my end of my 20 weeks of internship at Mindjumpers. I couldn’t find a better place to learn from and to be a part of. Jonas has showed interest in my personal development from the start and seen the advantages of what I can provide the agency. If you don’t get the chances and responsibility it’s hard to prove yourself as an intern. Nothing is being hid or held away from me because I’m an intern. I’m being met as any other employee and have the responsibilities that expects out of my role. This is the main thing that makes me glad about doing my internship at Mindjumpers. I’ve got insights in how the agency works and all the opportunities I could get to grow. I’ve developed much more then I first thought.

The internship is a part of your education. That means its one part of your way to finally get the job you wish for. No business cars or gifts beat the value of the huge step you take in your career when you’re handed the opportunities to grow. This is my 5 advices for those who going out on their internships:

If you have a long period of internship, do it at one place. People can involve you in more projects and you have time to learn knowing the company and the employees.

Tell them about your goals and what you expect from your internship. What can you provide to them and what you would like to learn more about? It could be a good thing to talk about at the first interview.

There are those internships where they use you for tasks they don’t want to do themselves or meaningless projects that are made up so you have something to do. Don’t be afraid to change to another place where both sides can gain value.

Be eager to take on every chance that comes in your hand. Embrace the responsibilities you get and believe in yourself. If you are not completely sure of how to do something then try! Who knows, maybe you do a task in a different – but new and creative – way?

Aim for the company that you find interesting. Follow your interests and think of what value it brings you.

So far in my opinion Coca Cola have done the most spectacular thing, it got brought to my attention by a friend on Facebook - sharing a fantastic YouTube video of the “official” song for the world cup - with the words - ‘fantastic song - gets you in the spirit for the world cup’. After listening for the song a couple of times it hit me - the nodes in the opening and the refrain - it’s heard before, going to YouTube and finding the coca cola happiness video - ohh yes that’s where I heard it.

My bet is that this song will be one of the most played song for millions around the globe this summer, and do not be surprised if you get thirsty by hearing it - that’s the coke side of life. Enjoy the video and have a Coke and a smile ;-)

I liked the empowerment of belonging to a big brand and I hate to say it, but I actually also liked the political game on a top-level management in a larger media corporation. Something I will write more about another time.

All good things comes to an end, the Corporation I worked for, where probably one of the first in Denmark to be hit by the upcoming (and now hopefully soon over) financial crisis. The Radio division got sold of, and I had a choice to make.
I had the chance to get the same position at the new owner of the radio and actually the management part (in number of employees) would increase.
But realising I had been working with Radio for almost teen years, knowing that it weren’t my true passion. Don’t get me wrong I believed/believe in radio, but what got me engine running, where building the business strategies, implementing them and that little fantastic part called people management.

It where time to seek new opportunities – and like most opportunities the happen for a bunch of reasons!

After turning down a few number of actually interesting jobs – I got to the conclusion that the only thing that would kick some life into my working life, where to go out on a limp!

Thinking back – it weren’t the dream of becoming the entrepreneurial visionary, the insanely rich self employed, the eager to show the world that I where the new Richard Branson - its so simple - I need to dare my self – I need to kick some life into my old comfy me – the big car, the nice restaurants, the expensive vacations – everything had to become unstable for me to feel a live and to grow, both as a person and a leader.

Holy shit the comfy things are gone – but I love it – everyday of it!
I never been more tired, I never worked more – but I never felt a joy about building both business and people as I do know – for the first time in my I feel I am giving it my all – and that feeling is why I went from corporate life to entrepreneurship.

"There is no reason to be stressed by tasks and projects - just put one foot in front of the other..."

“There is no reason to be stressed by tasks and projects - just put one foot in front of the other and slowly increase the tempo.”

Why you should hire people who blog

I just stumbled upon a great blog post written by Neil Perkin, the founder of Only Dead Fish, a consultancy specialising in digital content strategy, digital commercial strategy and social technologies from the UK

Times are tough. The recruitment market is tough. But here are 5 reasons why employing people who blog is more important than ever:

1. They start fires. Blogging forces you to come up with new stuff. To be interesting.

2. They understand the value of connection. And are connected. To other interesting people.

3. They get digital. They appreciate the nuances and potential of social media. And how it works. Because they’re doing it, not looking at it.

4. They network like crazy.

5. But most of all, because they’re bothered. They have an opinion. They’re not afraid to express it. They’re passionate about their subject. And real passion is rare indeed.

He nailed it, actually my latest hires have been people that blog, looking at my most recent hire, he actually just started blogging when I found his blog, but what he were writing – it just hit reason number 5 right on, with deep passion and excitement!
And that’s what I where explaining in my last blog post about digital identity, you can create your self! You can start working with what you are truly passionate about!

This is just another thought - Start to blog and Start looking for people whom blog when you hire!

My nigtly dilemmas

It’s 7.30 pm, again another day have raced by, and I find my self sitting here with my nightly dilemma.

I need to make a presentation for a new client meeting in the morning, I need to make a budget for a specific pitch coming up and I need to follow up on some tools we have started working with clearing up Rolls and responsibilities for everybody.

Then in one hand I hold a twelve pages interesting report from The Economist on “A world of connections – a special report on social networking” and in the other hand I hold a 120 pages thesis from a brilliant student at Copenhagen Business school on “Relation building in social media”.

On top of that I have a beautiful, intelligent and fantastic girl friend which I love spending my time with.

Now I am not complaining – I am living the life of my passion, but this is my dilemma, so many things I should and would love to do, every night, I just can get around to it all.

Well, it’s a positive dilemma – I should just get the presentation done, do the budget tomorrow, look at the rolls and responsibility thing – put it in order, save the thesis to the weekend take the report from the Economist with me and hurry home to my girl friend – it’s just a thought!

The feeling of being involved and listen to - WAUV

It’s hard not loving all these new possibilities of meeting people from all over the world and interacting with people you don’t know that rocks!

Yesterday I wrote a blog post about Twitterlive.net on socialemailmarketing.eu, I wrote that I liked the tool but that I had a little bump along the road when I started using it.

What happens next is just one of those fantastic experiences I wish everybody would get, course that is a real eye opener, when it comes to the possibilities of connecting with people cross everything else than a shared passion.

Twitterlive was built by Sergio Tobon an experienced .Net Web Application developer, who is passionate about twitter, Web services, and social media in general. His previous startups include the popular service pinmaps.net.

Now to the action part of it all - Sergio answered my blog post (almost within minutes, almost kind of scaring fast ;) ) And through him being open minded and us discussing in the comment area of the blog post, he got some insights from a user, and to be honest - he also got a somewhat more dedicated user and ambassador for his tool! Not because of the tool, but because I really like his approach to his users.

This is just a thought but! I could probably name you a million companies that could learn something from Sergio,

Top 100 Fail Clips of 2009
